A new direction for the original world
WoW Forever vs Classic is a question about which experience you want from Azeroth. Forever has been announced as an additional way to play alongside Modern and Classic. It returns to the original world while adding new content and revisiting parts of the familiar experience.
The BlizzCon announcement report describes a level cap of 60 and a world that can continue to expand. That is the broad direction, not a promise that every individual system will behave exactly as it did in original Classic. This table is a starting point for the reveal, not a feature-by-feature specification. It deliberately does not fill in unanswered details about transfers, server rules, progression cadence or every combat system.
Classes deserve a fresh look
A class you remember can gain a different set of choices. Early Paladin reporting, for example, describes a new strike and changes to the Seal-and-Judgement interaction. The Warrior preview comparison shows newly listed talents as well as entries removed from the old tree.
The class change explorer keeps each reported difference separate, with a source beside it. This is more useful for a return decision than assuming that a class will keep exactly the same strengths and weaknesses. At the same time, a changed talent name is not enough evidence for a final rotation, damage ranking or recommended build.
Start with the play style you want. Check the changes affecting it, then use the race comparison to see the character options currently reported for that class. Keep the plan flexible while the Beta client answers questions about values and interactions.
The world is part of the change
The new zones named in the reveal include Mount Hyjal, Zephras Isle and Riverglades. The announcement also includes new quests and group content. Our world guide collects the named locations and the preview dungeon information in one place.
A location name alone does not establish the best leveling route, a dungeon entrance or a loot table. Guides from another WoW version can share the same name while describing different content. Check the version and date before following a route, particularly when returning to a zone you know from a later expansion.
Which version is the right fit?
Think about what you want to preserve and what you want to discover. If your interest is in a specific existing Classic realm, progression path or community, check that version’s current details directly. If the appeal is exploring unfamiliar choices in the original setting, Forever’s announced direction may be closer to what you are looking for.
Playing with friends introduces practical questions as well: faction, character eligibility, realm availability and scheduling. This page does not assume that your existing character can transfer, that progression carries over or that every region has identical access rules. Treat those as questions for official information, rather than filling the gaps with expectations.
The dates and access questions are separate
The official cinematic description announces Beta on September 17, 2026 and launch on November 4, 2026. A date does not establish your account’s eligibility. The official store distinguishes game time from digital product benefits such as race unlocks.
